Yes its so far, Mac OSX has a decent marketshare and they are quiet, some are even willing to install windows 7 on bootcamp. If you would have asked that from an OSX fanboy 2 years ago he would have came to visit you with a bazooka. Anyway, this is a result of their rise in marketshare, they are less frustrated and actually becoming objective.
Windows fanboys, well they have nothing to complain about, they still have 88%. Think about it, 1.000$ is divided between three children, one gets 85$ (Mac OSX), one gets 880$ (Windows) and one gets 8,5$ (Linux). Which one will be frustrated?
So there is another group with a very small marketshare : The Linux Community!
Representing 0,85% of all PC users they think they own the world and the are 100% convinced that Linux will run on 60% of all desktops within 2 years, I present to you : The Linux community.
Now that Apple fanboys finally do shut up, Linux fanboys become arrogant and insulting, why? How can a fly be arrogant to a cheetah and a lion? Well yeah, we all know the answer, flies are irritating.
So message to the Linux fanboys : SHUT THE F*CK UP AND DISCOVER REALISM!

80% of today’s supercomputers use Linux
less than 2% run on windows
now beat this windows fanboys
(and i did not mention the web server world)
The only problem is that nobody cares about the backbones in this modern age. This 2 year old rant article was about PC’s, personal computers. So I don’t see why you bring in servers and supercomputers. The only reason Linux runs on most servers is because it’s the cheapest solution, as you mentioned “popularity does not equal quality”. I even have Linux hosting because it’s 40$ cheaper than Windows hosting which btw. offers what Linux has to offer and more (but is useless to me). When it comes to supercomputers the outcome is simple as well, Linux and BSD are built for multiple architectures. Microsoft didn’t really devote a lot of their attention to building operating systems that work on exotic architectures.
But this article was about the behavior of some users. Mac OSX and Apple grew in popularity the past few years so what were once the biggest fanboys are now the least active. Windows is under fire and they are revolting against everything which starts with an “i” because they can’t afford it, fear it and haven’t used it. But Linux fanboys have been around since forever and now they are becoming even more radical as even some phone OS’s have a higher marketshare than the average PC Linux distribution. The same is happening now in the mobile landscape, iOS has his Apple fanboys, Windows Phone 7 some Windows fanboys, BlackBerry, Nokia and WebOS hardly any fanboys and Android a whole busload of radical pissed off fanboys who condemn everything that’s not “open”. Coincidently Android runs on the Linux kernel, so there must be a module in there which pollutes people’s minds’ and causes insanity.
And for the record I haven’t used windows actively in over 2 years, I’m a Mac OSX cocoa developer.
and no, popularity does not equal quality
